Mancunian Way dashcam plea after driver, 19, stabbed

Police are appealing for the public to bring in dashcam footage after a 19-year-old was stabbed in his car as he waited at traffic lights in Manchester.

At around 9pm on Sunday 19 June, the teenager was driving a red Nissan Micra along Mancunian Way before stopping at the traffic lights at the junction of London Road and Downing Street.

Two men in a grey or blue family-sized car also stopped, and after a brief discussion at the lights the passenger got out and stabbed the Nissan driver in the chest.

He was rushed to hospital with serious stab wounds.

The attacker is described as a white man, around 5ft 9ins and in his late 30s. He is of a large, chubby build with a bald/shaven head and no facial hair.

He was wearing a black hooded jacket.

The driver of the blue/grey car is described as a white man, of a chubby build with grey or white styled hair.

Detective Sergeant Mark Astbury of GMP’s City of Manchester Team, said: “This was a completely unprovoked attack that has left the victim with a nasty injury to his lung and chest.

“I’m appealing to anyone who may have seen something.

“There were a lot of vehicles in the area at that time and I am particularly interested in anyone with a vehicle that has a dashboard camera, which may have captured the incident.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
