Salford bank robber still on the run

Police are appealing for help to trace a convicted bank robber who absconded from Sudbury open prison in Derbyshire.

David John Dargan, 29, left the Category D prison sometime between late Sunday 20 March and the early hours of Monday 21 March.

A manhunt was launched but Dargan is still at large, say Derbyshire police.

Anyone who sees him should call 999.

He is white, 5ft 9in tall with blue eyes, and when he was last seen had a shaved head.

Dargan was convicted and given an indefinite sentence for public protection in 2009 after admitting conspiracy to armed robbery.

Judge Sybil Thomas ordered he must serve at least five years before he could be considered for parole and would be on licence for life.

Along with four accomplices he organised a £425,000 raid on a Lloyds TSB bank in Telford, Shropshire.

The gang smashed the branch windows with a sledgehammer before snatching cash boxes from an ATM.

No-one was hurt in the raid, which lasted under two minutes, but the money has never been recovered.

Police say he has known connections in his hometown of Salford.

Anyone who sees David Dargan, or who knows where he lives, should call the police immediately on 101 or 999. Alternatively they can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
