Salford City split over BFG Denton and tonight’s title faves Fax

Salford City have a chance to add some real credibility to their title charge when they meet National League North big boys FC Halifax Town.

Continuing their unbeaten run in league games to a whopping 17 matches, The Ammies currently find themselves top of the National League North, and will hope to put some distance between themselves and the chasing pack with a win tonight.

Watch: ‘Woah, Phenix is on fire’

With a good goal difference, today’s visitors will slot into a playoff spot should they secure their fifth win of the season and other results go their way.

The Fax are one of the favourites to go up after being relegated from the National League on the final day of the season, and will represent The Ammies biggest test since gaining promotion from the Evo-Stik Premier Division.

Dominant Salford crush Curzon as Butt and Scholes watch on

The Yorkshire club have made a disappointing start to the season, currently sitting in ninth and only picking up seven points out of their last five games, compared to Salford’s 13.

On balance though, They Shaymen have played promotion chasing Harrogate Town and AFC Fylde in their last three games, whereas Salford won’t play against a team occupying a play-off team until they travel to Kidderminster Harriers come Saturday.

Billy Heath’s men do pose a danger going forward, having scored 17 goals so far this campaign (only Salford, Fylde, Darlington and Alfreton have scored more).

Much of this is down to star striker Tom Denton, with the 6’7 Yorkshireman scoring seven times so far this season.

If the big man continues his form, then the likes of Simon Grand and Billy Priestley could have their hands full, however if they can isolate him like they did Dan Bradley last Saturday, then they’ll secure a major step to victory.

Anthony Johnson and Bernard Morley also possess an in-form forward with Mike Phenix being nothing short of a revelation since signing from Southport following manager Dino Maamria’s departure from The Sandgrounders.

The forward has scored six goals so far this season, with only Denton, Bradley and arguably the best player in non-league football Danny Rowe scoring more.

Fans are reminded that tomorrow’s game will be segregated.

Salford fans should use the Neville Road entrance only, while Away fans are asked to use the Moor Lane entrance.

Kick off at Moor Lane is 7.45pm Tuesday 6 September.
