Vote now: Young Salford stars wanted for new film

Salford’s top 10 young people who really make a difference to their community are being sought for a unique council-backed film.

Salford City Council is sponsoring the film as part of its support for Youth Day – an annual day of activities organised by young people, for young people across the city.

It aims to show the real and important contribution made by 11 to 25 year olds in all aspects of daily life in Salford – and nominations are open to everyone in the city.

Councillor John Merry, assistant mayor for children’s services, said: “We know our young people make a real, positive difference to our city – and we want to capture and celebrate that.

“From caring for family members to working to improve their community, from fundraising to getting involved with the Youth Council and campaigning for change or showcasing our city by being the best in sport, art or music – we want to hear about their contribution.

“Ten of the very best stories will be chosen to feature in the film to be premiered on Youth Day, Wednesday August 12, but we will also highlight a selection of the rest.”

Laura Edwards, Salford’s Youth MP, said: “There are a lot of young people who do a lot of good without any recognition – this competition is a great way to change that, but only if we all get involved. I’d encourage everyone to nominate a young person they think deserving, even if it’s themselves.”

Nominations for young people are now open and must be submitted before Friday 1 May.
