Warning over door-to-door thieves in Winton

The public is being warned after two suspected thieves targeted houses in Winton.

At around 1.30pm today, Tuesday 18 August, a mum-of-three was approached on her doorstep on Westbourne Road by two young men in a red Ford Transit van, who claimed to offer cheap rubbish removal.

They bargained a deal for £20 but acted aggressively throughout, asking for more money.

“My husband wasn’t in at the time, I don’t think they would’ve done it if he’d been there,” said the woman, who did not want to be named.

“They also took a particular interest in my dog, asking if she had puppies and such.”

When the mum said she didn’t have any more money they snatched it from her hand and ran back to their van before speeding off down the street.

Unfortunately she was unable to get the van’s registration plate.

She told SalfordOnline.com: “We’re all fine but shaken up.

“I just don’t want this happening to any of my neighbours or anyone elderly.

“I think they’d definitely pick on vulnerable people.”

The two men are described as being white and in their 20s.

The first was of a stocky build with mousey brown hair and well groomed, while the second was skinny with dark hair.

Anyone with any information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 101.
