575 homes hit by Swinton power cut

Over 500 homes and businesses have been affected by power cuts in Swinton this evening.

Engineers were called out to four sectors in the Wardley area at 4.40pm today.

It’s thought a high-voltage cable fault knocked out power on the Wardley Industrial estate, along with hundreds of homes on housing estates either side of the A6 Manchester Road.

Residents say the power cuts last only a few seconds, but electricity supply is faltering, triggering house alarms.

A spokesperson for Electricity North West, who are responsible for the utility in Salford, said that as of 5.25pm engineers had restored power to all but 25 customers.

It’s the third major power cut in Salford in two weeks.

On Friday 14 August 285 homes and businesses around Chapel Street in Salford were hit by a four-hour power cut.

On Monday 10 August, homes in Brindle Heath near Pendleton were cut off by an underground cable fault.

The majority of homes are expected to be back online by 8pm tonight, say Electricity North West.
