Little Hulton shooting: Man, 21, arrested for attempted murder after dad gunned down

Police have made an arrest in a fast-moving probe into the shooting of a 34-year-old man in Little Hulton.

Armed police and Tactical Aid Units swarmed over Madamswood Road, near St Ann’s Hospice, in the early hours of this morning, Thursday 8 October.

A 21-year-old man has now been taken into police custody.

He is being questioned on suspicion of attempted murder.

Victim Darren Williams was blasted three times in the chest and torso by a would-be hitman on a motorbike as he stood outside his Coniston Avenue home at 11.20pm on Monday 5 October.

He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

Police called it a ‘targeted’ attack, but it is still not known whether Mr Williams was the intended target or whether it was a case of mistaken identity.

Residents reported hearing a motorbike zooming up and down the street for around half an hour before Mr Williams was shot.

Around 25 minutes later, police cordoned off an alleway in Weaste, around two miles away in Salford, after discovering a motorbike which had been set alight.

Detectives were last looking at CCTV to see if they could make a positive identification of the rider.

Crime Scene Investigators cordoned off the victim’s home and papered up a smashed doorway as they continued to comb the area for clues.
