21-year-old arrested for attempted murder in Little Hulton gang shooting

A man has been arrested for attempted murder after a 33-year-old man was shot while sunbathing in a Little Hulton street.

Police are investigating on the basis that Saturday’s shooting, on the normally quiet residential Mill Hill, is related to an ongoing gang feud.

Armed police raided a house on Gorse Drive last night and arrested an as yet unnamed 21-year-old who is well known to police.

Officer are also asking for any information on a silver Peugeot that was seen driving around the local area in the hours before the attack.

The victim was approached by a man and shot in the chest at around 9.25pm on Saturday 4 June.

Neighbours rushed to try and help, before he was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

He is still recovering but is now stable, doctors say.

Detective Inspector Clare Devlin, of GMP’s Salford borough, said: “We have dedicated extra patrols in Salford to try and prevent further incidents from taking place and also offer reassurance to the community that incidents like this will not be tolerated.

“We believe this is linked to other recent violent incidents in Salford between two organised crime groups in Little Hulton.

“Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone in the area at the time or anyone with information to come forward.

Detectives revealed how late last year shootings had broken out in Little Hulton and Bolton because of a dispute between two warring families involved in the illicit but vastly profitable cocaine trade.

A 34-year-old dad of three was shot three times by a gunman on a motorbike on Coniston Avenue in October last year.

A 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder but later released.

Houses on Gorse Drive, Crescent Drive and Thornfield Grove were all shot at, with armed police sadly becoming a semi-regular fixture in Little Hulton.

Police have also arrested a 39-year-old woman and 49-year-old man on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
